Giampietro Fabio

BIOGRAPHY

Fabio Giampietro is an Italian artist who lives and works in Milan. He is considered one of the pioneers of immersive art, thanks to his virtual reality installations that go beyond the “tangible world,” connecting it definitively to the “metaverse.” He is also among the very first artists to work with VR headsets in order to move beyond the two-dimensionality of the canvas.

His research merges painterly tradition with the most innovative technologies, combining the dimensions of space and time and eliminating the contemplative distance between the viewer’s senses and the reality of the artwork. In 2016 Fabio won the Lumen Prize Gold Award and is one of the 50 artists featured in the Rizzoli book Crypto Art Begins. Active in the art scene for more than 20 years, Fabio Giampietro is among the pioneers of the NFT revolution and one of the leading figures in the Italian and international digital art scene.

He has exhibited in cities such as London, Berlin, Bologna, Istanbul, Los Angeles, Shanghai, and Toronto. Major institutions include Palazzo Reale in Milan, Palazzo Cipolla in Rome, and MEET in Milan. Other projects include AIORA, an interactive swing exhibited alongside works by artists such as Refik Anadol and Krista Kim, and renowned masters like Escher, Boccioni, de Chirico, and Piranesi in the exhibition Ipotesi Metaverso in Rome, as well as URBAN SINGULARITY, a pictorial and installation project exploring the concept of singularity applied to architecture, through impossible geometries and post-human urban visions.

In 2018, he exhibited in the show Il Millennio è Maggiorenne at the Museo Marca, curated by Luca Beatrice, and at CYFEST 11, both at the Stieglitz Museum in St. Petersburg and at Ca’ Foscari University of Venice.

In 2021, he took part in CRYPTOART IS NOW 2121, held at the Museo della Permanente and curated by Serena Tabacchi, as well as THE GATEWAY, an exhibition curated by NFTNow and Christie’s at Art Basel Miami Beach.

In 2022, he presented his works at DISRUPTION, curated by W1Curates, 33 NFT and Cozomo de’ Medici collections in London, at the 59th edition of La Biennale di Venezia within the Decentral Art Pavilion at Palazzo Giustinian, and in the exhibition PRESENTE FUTURO for the fifth edition of Videocittà in Rome.

In 2023, he participated in ETERNAL NEXUS, a project by Switzerland for UNHCR presented at Art Basel, in L’ARTE È WOW, a project by Dynamo Camp at the Triennale Milano, and in the exhibition Crypto Art: A New Possibility at the CAFA Art Museum.

In 2026, during Milano Art Week, he presented his new installation UPRISE at Milan Malpensa Airport, produced by the digital art museum MEET Digital Culture Center and curated by Maria Grazia Mattei. Later that same year, in November, he will take part in the exhibition Sensing the Future at the MAXXI – National Museum of 21st Century Arts.
