ART EXHIBITION: PAN, tra mito e natura

Zanini Arte Gallery is pleased to present “PAN tra mito e natura”, an exceptional exhibition to be held in the heart of the village of Cossignano, in the province of Ascoli Piceno. The event, sponsored by the Municipality, the Province, and the Marche Region, will take place in collaboration with the FAI giovani di San Benedetto del Tronto, FAI Marche, and the Colombo family.

The exhibition is an integral part of the PAN Project, which aims to create a connection between Landscape, Art, and Nature to promote the knowledge, protection, and enhancement of the Marche hinterland.

During the entire month of May 2024, within the exhibition, a series of events will be organized, including art exhibitions curated by ZANINI ARTE Galleryconferences on biodiversity featuring industry experts, as well as nature walks and meetings with local entities involved in land conservation through visits and tastings of typical products such as wine and oil.

The exhibition will unfold in two prestigious venues: the evocative Chiesa dell’Annunziata and the historic Fassitelli building. These locations will provide a captivating backdrop for the exhibited artworks, creating a unique atmosphere that blends the cultural heritage of the region with prominent artists in the national contemporary art scene.

The exhibition aims to challenge the boundaries of time and space, taking the visitor on a journey of rediscovery between Myth and Nature, thanks to contemporary artworks created by exceptional 21st-century artists. At the heart of the exhibition stands the figure of Pan, the Greek god of fields and woods, portrayed in the oil painting “Pan e la ninfa” by Emile Charles Dameron from the second half of the 19th century, chosen as a symbol of vitality and the inseparable bond between nature and humanity.

The painting “Pan e la ninfa” by Emile Charles Dameron from the second half of the 19th century has been selected as the iconic image of the exhibition because Pan embodies the vitality of nature and its inseparable connection with the human essence. In this splendid canvas, the nymph stands as a dichotomy between mythical imagery and a real figure. Her supple body, in its voluptuous nudity, is immersed in nature, and her forms blend with trees, flowers, and vegetation, creating a unity between the environment and the characters.

The exhibition features a selection of six internationally renowned contemporary Italian artists, five painters: Alfonso Borghi, Andrea Vizzini, Antonio Nunziante, Marica Fasoli, and Lamberto Melina; and one sculptor, Daniele Fortuna. The works chosen for this display aim to immerse the visitor in a world where classicism and nature harmonize. Each artist interprets classic characters through a contemporary lens, showcasing an intimate connection between humanity and the surrounding environment, each with their unique sensitivity and artistic techniques ranging from hyperrealism to chromatic materiality.

Andrea Vizzini: is one of the pioneers of the anachronistic citationist artistic movement, seeks to reconstruct the meaning of mythology and art history with a visionary eye. The great protagonists of myths and classicism become the subjects of compositions deconstructed by informal plans and geometric elements, portrayed with an intimate and minimalist attitude. This exhibition will present both cycles of paintings: Mythology and Theoretical Interiors.

Lamberto Melina: his works showcases a blend of sensitivity and technical virtuosity coupled with chromatic richness. A sharp contrast between the luminosity of female faces, epitomizing absolute purity, against dark backgrounds reminiscent of Caravaggio. Female figures, with clear psychoanalytic references to Klimt’s secessionism, take center stage in mythological reminiscences and symbolistic alchemy. The semantic deconstruction of subjects and objects is the process that ideologically generates the artist’s works. Catharsis is the ultimate goal of this hermeneutic operation. Faced with a human subject, the artist strips away its cultural attributes, isolating it in its naked humanity. Identifying fragments are obscured in darkness. What remains is a pure face, a pure object, natural, reconstructed in its utmost essentiality, free from historicized artifices.

Antonio Nunziante: his approach to the image is the result of intense reflection on mastery of pictorial technique, beauty, and balance. In his paintings, he blends images and thoughts, emphasizing timeless experiences, memories, hopes, and emotions. This alchemy of forms seems created for a new, more spiritual birth, from which emanates a sense of stability. The spirit contained within his compositions appears to open up to the consciousness of the world through the elements of nature: water, earth, sky, which merge the external landscape with the internal compositions.

Marica Fasoli: is a remarkable hyperrealist figurative painter. The cycle of works presented for this exhibition will be that of the 3D Boxes. With mastery and sophistication, she plays with the observer through a stunning optical illusion effect. The boxes appear real in every detail, from the Scotch tape to the torn effect of the paper. The artist plays on the juxtaposition of the physicality of this element, symbolizing the sense of custody and protection of the container, while at the same time, the extreme fragility and perishability of the material. “I think that on the surface of the containers, the projections of our desires accumulate; they are the shell that separates what we are from what we can decide to be.

Alfonso Borghi: he is a master of the fusion of material and color, plays with painting in an almost three-dimensional key. He brings his canvases to life through a layering of intense pure color. Vibrant works that evoke pictorial dynamism. They appear as abstract compositions that actually conceal refined figurativism, often linked to nature and faith.

Daniele Fortuna: he works with a single natural element, wood. The final composition, in its perfection, seems to be created with a 3D printer, but it is the artist’s manual skill that makes it come alive. He draws, cuts, breaks down the material, colors it, and finally reassembles it. Art represents a vehicle, a means through which he manages to express his most intimate sensations without hesitation or hypocrisy. He transforms the protagonists of classicism into icons of contemporaneity; myth and innovation blend for a reinterpretation and rediscovery of mythology with a pop twist.

The approximately 30 artworks that will be presented explore with sophistication and excellent craftsmanship universal themes such as the duality of human existence, the pursuit of beauty, the search for mythology, and the balance between man and nature. They serve as a reminder of how classicism endures timelessly and how nature is the essential element for the longevity of human history.
