Andrea Crespi inaugurates an exhibition at the Italian Cultural Institute in Madrid

From June 18 to August 29, 2026, the Italian Cultural Institute in Madrid will host Metamorfosis. Las transformaciones de la belleza, the new solo exhibition by Andrea Crespi, curated by Clelia Patella. The exhibition, opening today, June 17 at 8:00 p.m., will guide visitors through a journey that brings European artistic tradition into dialogue with the languages and technologies of the present.

Within the spaces of the Italian Cultural Institute, one of the key pillars of Italian cultural diplomacy in Europe, the artist’s practice engages with the iconographic heritage that has shaped the Western idea of beauty over the centuries. Madrid, a city that preserves some of the most important masterpieces in art history, thus becomes the ideal setting for a reflection on the transformations of image and perception in the contemporary era.

For the occasion, Crespi presents a new large-scale work inspired by Venus and Mars, created from a reproduction of the famous group held at the Prado Museum. The work builds a symbolic bridge between Spain’s artistic heritage and contemporary Italian sensibilities, strengthening cultural dialogue between the two countries and offering a new interpretation of one of the most emblematic themes of the classical tradition.

The exhibition path unfolds across three distinct rooms. The Mirror Room explores the theme of reflection and the multiplication of the image; the White Room connects body and perception through works dedicated to Cupid and Psyche and Venus and Mars; and the Belvedere Room ultimately leads visitors toward the possibilities offered by artificial intelligence and algorithmic processes in the construction of contemporary images, making explicit the role of the machine in defining form.

Among the works on display and included in the catalogue are also those from the Future Magazine series by our gallery.

With Metamorfosis. Las transformaciones de la belleza, Madrid becomes a meeting point between the classical heritage that has defined Europe’s cultural identity and the new expressive possibilities offered by contemporary technologies.

The exhibition has been made possible with the support of the FGN Foundation, which is committed to the promotion and dissemination of contemporary art.

Sandie Zanini supported the realization of the exhibition as project manager, contributing to the coordination of its various stages.
